Miscellaneous family papers, genealogical notes, and letters gathered mainly by Edward Bell Krumbhaar in his roots pursuits. Among small groups of papers are: Christian Ludwig Lewis Krumbhaar letterbook, 1816-1820, concerning his Philadelphia merchantile business conducted from Hamburg, where Krumbhaar lived for the duration of the War of 1812, and from Philadelphia to which he returned in 1816, and concerning family business including lands in Kentucky and New York; William W. Stone letters, 1855-1861 (17 items) concerning his business problems and Maryland's resistance to the passage of Northern troops through to Washington, D. C., at the start of the Civil War; Charles Hermann Krumbhaar scrapbooks, 1876-1893 (3 v. -- clippings only), on his political activities as city councilman, County Commissioner, Sheriff, and PA Superintendent of Banking. Related families represented in the papers are Ramsay, Turnbull, and Bell.

William Stone was a graduate of Antioch College and the School for Graphic Design in Stockholm, Sweden, where he studied typography and calligraphy. After working at the Franklin Mint and as art director at Embossing Printers, Inc., Stone founded Sequoia Press in 1950. Edward Bell Krumbhaar (1882-1966) was a distinguished pathologist and cardiac physician, as well as one of Philadelphia’s leading historians of medicine. A founder of both the Section on Medical History of the College of Physicians and the American Association of the History of Medicine (AAHM), Krumbhaar also served as president of the College and of the AAHM.
